"Knabe" is a common name in Oberleutensdorf. Since hardly any professions were recorded in the entries in the church registers, it is difficult to clearly identify the playing card maker. A Nikolaus Knabe with similar life dates was the son of Anton Knabe and married to Elisabeth. In one entry, however, he is described as a "pannifex" (linen weaver). Therefore, I tend to think that Nikolaus, the son of Franz Knabe, was the playing card maker.
