Remark:
The entry in the Graz register of citizens lists Vienna as his place of origin (i.e., from which city he travelled to Graz). In the entry of his marriage in the church register of Graz, his father is listed as an innkeeper in Bratislava. However, only his siblings, born from 1760 onwards, are recorded in the birth registers there. It is therefore likely that his parents moved to Bratislava only after his birth; his birthplace is thus currently unknown.

A genealogical overview of the Herrl family can be found here.
